This year’s Inspire Festival may have been cancelled due to COVID-19, but artists across New Brunswick are still coming together to create murals.
Event organizers are teaming up with the province’s container recycling program, Encorp Altantic, to create a series of environmentally-focused pieces.
This is part of Inspire’s Creator Class model, which issued grants to a number of applicants.
Four teams of local artists will be sponsored by Encorp to create murals in four separate parts of the province.
“We have been working harder each year to create the greenest events possible and to leverage public education on issues that matter through art. This project marries our passion for art, education, and environment,” says festival director Lisa Griffin.
Encorp’s General Manager Pierre Landry hopes the artworks will also discourage people from littering the public spaces in which they are displayed.
“Transforming a neglected public space with art is another form of ‘recycling’,” he says,
The environmentally informative displays will be created live alongside litter clean-ups and public information booths.
