Premier Blaine Higgs believes small modular nuclear reactors will be a game-changer for New Brunswick.
The province has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ontario and Saskatchewan to explore the technology with an aim to provide carbon-free, reliable and safe energy.
Higgs says pursuing only green energy won’t be enough in the future.
He told his provincial counterparts that’s why his government is pushing forward with developing the natural gas sector.
“The small portion of our energy consumption in this world that is actually supplied by wind or solar or renewables will never sustain us globally. It will continue to go well beyond what our demands are,” he says.
For that reason, Higgs believes that small modular reactor technology could put Canada back on the world stage as a leader in global emissions reductions.
