The debate often comes up around this time every year – should you install winter tires or go with all-season tires.
Carl Nadeau is a Michelin driving expert and stunt driver who says there shouldn’t be any debate at all.
“Any province in Canada that has weather colder than the freezing point, should have winter tires in the winter season – period,” he says.
Nadeau says the only part of the country typically above freezing is the West Coast but even then drivers are often travelling in the mountains.
For all-season tires, Nadeau adds it’s not about snow or ice but the cold which causes the rubber compound to harden and the tire loses its grip on pavement.
