MADD Canada has launched its annual Project Red Ribbon campaign to ensure sober driving is top of mind during the holiday season.
Spokesperson Diane Mullins says Canadians are being encouraged to tie a red ribbon to their vehicles, keys, steering wheels or rear view mirrors as a reminder and to raise awareness.
Mullins has some adviceĀ for everyone taking part in activities over the holiday season.
“Plan ahead is the big one. Make sure that you have a way to get home before you even start with your celebrating,” she says.
Statistics show an average of 3 to 4 Canadians are killed every day in crashes involving alcohol or drugs.
Project Red Ribbon has grown across the country after a single event was held in 1988.
Mullins adds volunteers are always being sought at this time of year to help with the campaign which runs until January 6.
Red Ribbons are available through the MADD Canada website and their Facebook page.
