A Canadian politics professor says the prime minister has a real challenge when it comes to selecting his new cabinet this week.
Alberta and Saskatchewan will need to be represented but the minority Liberal government has no MP’s from the two provinces.
Mario Levesque with Mount Allison University says the Liberals could choose a member from another like-minded party.
“There is an NDP member that got elected in one Edmonton area riding so he could do that. It’s not unheard of… it’s unusual,” he notes.
Levesque says choosing cabinet members from the Senate has been done before.
However, several Senators from Alberta and Saskatchewan have already publicly said they wouldn’t even consider it.
Levesque says members of the private sector could even be included.
The new cabinet will be named on Wednesday.
