A sleep researcher believes Canada has a major public health problem when it comes to sleep.
Dr. Julie Carrier says millennials and middle-agers are the largest groups which are chronically sleep deprived.
“Although most of them do not have any sleep problems, they will consider sleep as unimportant and will reduce (too much) the hours of sleep,” she notes.
Dr. Carrier says a lack of sleep has major impacts on our emotional, physical and cognitive health.
She says another issue is that one-quarter of Canadians suffer from sleep disorders such as sleep apnea or insomnia.
She adds it’s very critical to find the right solutions to those problems.
