The current law restricts assisted dying for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
But three quarters of respondents in Atlantic Canada say they support easing restrictions for anyone in the advanced stages of those diseases.
Narrative Research CEO Margaret Brigley says she’s not surprised given that the region has the highest proportion of seniors in the country.
Support for changes in Atlantic Canada is strongest among higher income households and middle-aged adults.
Narrative Research says more than 6,700 Canadians have made requests for medically assisted deaths since the legislation was adopted.
The poll included 1500 Atlantic Canadian adults who were surveyed by phone in August.
