New Brunswick Public Health says the current case of potential measles exposure in Greater Moncton serves as a good reminder about vaccinations.
Regional medical officer of health Dr. Yves Leger says everyone should make sure their vaccinations are up to date.
“We do know that vaccine against measles is very, very effective. Someone who has gotten two doses of the vaccine is almost always guaranteed to be protected,” he notes.
After visiting Greater Moncton on business September 19 and 20, Public Health says a Quebec man was confirmed as having measles last week in Montreal.
Individuals were potentially exposed to the measles if they:
- were at the Pita Pit on Dieppe Blvd. between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sept. 19;
- were using an Air Cab taxi between 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Sept 19;
- were at the McDonald’s on Dieppe Blvd. between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., on Sept. 19;
- were at the hotel between 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 19 and 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 20;
- were at the airport, departures area, on Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; or
- were on Air Canada Flight 8903 from Moncton to Montreal on Sept. 20, which departed at 11:15 a.m.
Public Health says the latest anyone could develop symptoms is October 11.
If you believe you may have measles, you are urged to isolate yourself and call 811 to receive further instructions.
