Since the Albert Street tent city was shut down by the City of Moncton last week, outreach agencies have been working with the individuals who had been living there.
Trevor Goodwin with YMCA ReConnect says many of the former residents have moved into one of the city’s two homeless shelters.
Several individuals were given bus tickets back to their home communities.
“ReConnect through their case management were able to connect with someone on the other end, so a family member or another organization that can receive them,” Goodwin noted.
Some former residents are also staying with friends and family or are awaiting housing offers according to Goodwin.
He adds others have moved to new tent sites or have set up behind abandoned buildings.
In those cases, Goodwin says individuals are being reminded they will be asked to move whether it’s on public or private property.
