Can the federal Liberal campaign move forward in light of the blackface controversy surrounding leader Justin Trudeau?
Political science professor Mario Levesque with Mount Allison University thinks the opposition parties may actually save him.
“As people look at the opposition, I mean there’s as much baggage with the Conservatives… and the NDP and the Greens are fighting each other. It seems like the country is drifting right now… basically just lacking leadership,” he believes.
Levesque feels it’s important to examine the past actions of the federal Liberal leader and the party but to also look at their current actions.
Admittedly he says there have been some positives such as the first gender neutral cabinet and the first ministry for sport and disabilities in Canada.
Levesque adds voters will have to closely watch Liberal members and candidates in the coming weeks to see if they act and support diverse communities.
