An associate political science professor says Justin Trudeau wasn’t sincere enough in his initial apology for appearing in photos with a brownface or blackface.
Mario Levesque with Mount Allison University says the prime minister’s leadership ability has been seriously compromised.
Levesque says the Liberal leader also didn’t admit there were more damaging images when he was first asked by reporters.
“Really when you take a look at that, he had an opportunity to come clean on all the instances but he didn’t. He chose not to. He chose to lie about them. So the question has to be asked, why is the prime minister lying to the people of Canada about his background and his history,” he asks.
While the other party leaders also weighed in, Levesque felt that NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh was the most sincere of all and addressed the issue head-on.
Levesque believes Singh could gain some ground from this controversy but he adds the NDP don’t seem to be the natural governing party in Canada.
He adds this controversy may not be great news for the Conservatives.
Levesque notes how the Tories have as much baggage as the Liberals with leader Andrew Scheer trying to hide party members or candidates who have made racist comments.
