Named after the late Acadian poet and songwriter Gerald Leblanc, the green space next to Moncton City Hall will be transformed into a park.
Chairs, tables and benches will be added along with a large game board for chess or checkers.
All trees on the site will be retained.
Landscape architect Jim Trace told City Council that the design of the park pays homage to Gerald Leblanc.
Trace noted how Leblanc was all about making a cultural exchange and including people in common spaces both here and around the world.
The park will be able to accommodate small gatherings, outdoor performances and yoga classes.
The first phase of construction will begin this fall.
