Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team has canvassed the Sunny Brae neighbourhood looking for details about an RCMP shooting on Somerset Drive.
For the purposes of transparency, the outside agency is investigating the shooting death of a 24-year-old man by a Codiac RCMP officer.
SIRT director Felix Cacchione says two RCMP officers responded to the call on Sunday afternoon.
“They were met in the residence by the man (now deceased) who was wielding a large kitchen knife,” he notes.
He says one of the officers used a Taser which was unsuccessful and when the suspect continued to move toward them, the second officer shot him.
Based on the evidence being gathered, Cacchione says he will ultimately determine whether or not the shooting was justified.
There is no timeline to complete the investigation.
