A local football podcaster believes the City of Moncton should spend up to $55,000 to install turf end zones for the upcoming Touchdown Atlantic game at Moncton Stadium.
Moncton City Council ultimately agreed to support the Atlantic Schooners funding request this week but three councillors voted against it – Paul Pellerin, Brian Hicks and Shawn Crossman.
Wray Dunn with First Down Sports Podcast believes it’s a small price to pay given the exposure, the economic spin-offs and tourism dollars that the CFL game will bring.
“Canada’s largest sports network… This game is going to be televised on TSN for three hours plus the pre-game and the post-game. There’s a lot of spin-offs that can come from that coverage,” he feels.
Dunn says this is a not a lot of money for Moncton especially when you consider that councillors in Halifax are bickering over spending up to $180 million to build a CFL stadium.
Given that the game is only a month away on August 25th, Dunn says he’s disappointed by the lack of promotion noting how some in the local football community aren’t even aware of Touchdown Atlantic.
