New Brunswick has lost two visitor information centres as the summer season gets underway.
Aulac and Woodstock got the axe when the Higgs government slashed the Department of Tourism’s budget earlier this year.
Tourism Industry Association (TIANB) president and CEO Carol Alderdice says it’s disappointing when the province makes cuts in tourism since it is the third largest economic driver in New Brunswick and has a great return on investment.
The three remaining visitor centres in Edmundston, Campbellton and St. Stephen are quite busy according to Alderdice who hopes they stay open.
“Especially now that there is not going to be a (provincial travel) guide published. It’s nice to have somewhere to stop to find out what’s going in the area or the province as they are entering the province.”
Despite the budget cut, Alderdice says tourism operators are feeling optimistic about this summer especially since both 2018 and 2017 were banner years in New Brunswick.
