The Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick (TIANB) is disappointed it wasn’t consulted or even prepared when the Higgs government recently announced the annual travel guide will no longer be published.
The province estimates the cost-cutting move will save about $600,000 per year.
TIANB President and CEO Carol Alderdice says both locals and visitors have enjoyed the guide and used it to find and visit many of the province’s attractions.
While many now go online for bookings and travel information, she says some people want something to hold in their hands and the guide is eye-catching when it appears in liquor stores and gas stations.
Despite an online component, she figured the guide would still be published for a few more years and admits she was surprised it would be cut in 2020.
Alderdice adds we will have to wait and see how it will affect tourism next year.
