As the summer driving season approaches, traffic is increasing and RCMP are passing along a reminder about the “Move Over” law.
RCMP Sergeant Mario Maillet is with New Brunswick’s tactical traffic enforcement unit.
He says if a first responder has pulled over a vehicle, it’s important to change lanes if possible to do so.
“Usually on a four lane highway, you can move over into the left lane when you pass an emergency vehicle which makes it a lot safer.”
On a two lane highway, Sergeant Maillet says drivers must also slow down and almost come to a complete stop if necessary to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
The fine for not slowing down and moving over is $292.50 and three demerit points.
