It’s not easy being a farmer in New Brunswick especially with such unpredictable weather conditions.
Bouctouche farmer Christian Michaud is president of the Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick and says Mother Nature has not been very kind lately.
He says a cold, wet spring has saturated fields and delayed planting by two or three weeks.
“Depending on your type of soil… if you have heavier soil which takes longer to dry you might be three weeks behind. If the weather gets very nice, it will catch up somewhat.”
Michaud says the fall harvest could be delayed but that will depend on what kind of summer weather we will have.
Right now, Michaud says farmers need sunny weather around 20 degrees with a couple of inches of rain each week.
However, he jokingly adds that farmers are never happy about the weather.
