The weather phenomenon known as El Nino will likely play a role in this summer’s weather forecast according to Accuweather.
Meteorologist Brett Anderson says a relatively weak El Nino over the Pacific should bring heat to the West and set the stage for the rest of the country.
“Usually that means you will have a trough with a pocket of cooler air in the central part of the country, then we get an area with more moisture which will be over the Great Lakes and then when you head to Quebec and the East Coast we should have a ridge of high pressure present,” he notes.
Anderson says that will likely mean warm, sunny days for New Brunswick with less humidity than last summer throughout July and into August.
But he adds there will be less rainfall than usual which could mean short bouts of drought.
Anderson believes forest fires in the West could impact the Maritimes this summer as prevailing winds carry smoke across the country.
