Students from Bessborough and Hillcrest schools in Moncton will “Walk for Water” this morning.
Nick Mattatall is the Principal at Bessborough. He says it is a ceremonial walk between the two schools, “We are taking water samples from Jones Lake and then both school populations are walking from Hillcrest back to Bessborough for an educational festival to teach kids about water security, safe sanitation and the challenges kids their age face accessing water in developing nations.”
Around 800 students and staff are taking part, in this first time initiative created by the ME to WE organization.
Money has been raised that will be donated to the organization, to help drill wells in impoverished countries.
Mattatall adds they will also be donating flats of water to the Humanity Project for the homeless.
Students will be walking down Bessborough Avenue to Mount Royal, then to St. George, and they will return using the same route. The walk gets underway at around 10:50 this morning.
