Codiac RCMP officers were busier in downtown Moncton after the city’s emergency homeless shelter opened last winter.
Superintendent Tom Critchlow told City Council that service callsĀ for Codiac RCMP increased by 19 percent in the downtown from the beginning of December to the end of March.
Critchlow says that compares to a 10 percent increase in calls for the entire Codiac coverage area.
He noted 70 occurrences were reported over the four month period which was the highest number of calls in the downtown followed by the Law Courts and Harvest House.
Critchlow adds the calls were attributed to well-being checks, disturbing the peace, mental health issues and suspicious people or vehicles.
