One of the biggest downtown building owners in Moncton is not able to provide parking for its clients.
Jim Scott with Trace Planning and Design, on behalf of Slate Office REIT which owns the Blue Cross Centre, says there will be a cost to that.
Scott says clients within the Blue Cross Centre may want to expand and without parking it will be difficult to do so.
He says the city needs to get going on a parking strategy today and he adds the reality is it will likely take years.
“There are no park and rides in place in Moncton at all. The active transportation network is really just getting going. Any kind of transit solution isn’t quite in place yet,” he notes.
Despite a lengthy waiting list for downtown parking, Moncton City Council rejected a proposal this week to turn the former Co-Op site into a parking lot with 365 spaces.
