The wooden play park behind Frank L. Bowser School in Riverview will soon be coming down.
A new Rebecca Schofield All World Super Play Park will be going up in its place next month.
Project Coordinator Sean Rollo says the park has been standing since the 1990’s, but it is now outdated, “Still standing as of today, but as of Sunday, May 26, that is the last day that people can enjoy the old wooden play park. It is coming down on Monday, May 27th.”
Almost $650, 000 has been raised to build an all inclusive park that will be accessible for all kids including a stage for the kids, slides, and swings. It will also include a wheelchair roundabout.
Grade 5 student Ayden Rollo says, “I am very excited, but at the same time I am sad because I am going to miss the old play park because of the wonderful memories. But it needs to get torn down because it is very dangerous for some kids.”
Construction of the new park begins June 4th.
“Really what we are trying to do is encourage and create inclusive play, or shoulder to shoulder play, where children of all abilities will get the chance to play on the structure together side by side without feeling like they are a mile away from the piece of equipment, “Rollo says.
This is a community built playground and more help is needed.
“We are short volunteers right now for June 4th, both morning and afternoon and we would love for people to come out and help,” Rollo adds.
