Now that a larger passenger aircraft is again serving the Greater Moncton International Airport (YQM), officials are optimistic that even brighter skies lie ahead.
Air Canada Rouge has begun using an Airbus A319 with 136 seats three times daily between YQM and Toronto Pearson (YYZ).
Between June 20th and October 26th, an Airbus A320 with 162 seats will be used to keep up with expected summer demand.
Airport president/CEO Bernard LeBlanc says he hopes Air Canada will even go a step further.
“Previously with the (Bombardier) Q400 – they are a good aircraft – but they are slower… now we’re 40 minutes faster to Toronto. But also they (Q400) can’t reach sunshine destinations while these planes (Airbus) can get us there,” he notes.
While Air Canada currently doesn’t offer sunshine flights out of Moncton during the winter months, both Sunwing and Air Transat do.
