The mayor of Moncton says the city’s two permanent homeless shelters can provide refuge for those who need a roof over their heads.
City officials told several tenters living behind the old Assomption fire hall to pack up their belongings last Thursday.
The former temporary emergency shelter closed earlier this month.
The City told those living there that it wanted to conduct annual spring cleaning along the riverfront.
Dawn Arnold says both Harvest House and House of Nazareth are nowhere near capacity at the moment.
Arnold believes the City will have a long-term solution for a permanent shelter in the community over the next few months.
The City of Moncton recently unveiled an implementation plan for affordable housing.
She says the City has done everything it can and adds the province of New Brunswick now has to come to the table with an affordable housing strategy.
