A Green Party MLA thinks it’s time to stop reciting the Lord’s Prayer in the provincial legislature.
Kevin Arseneau, who represents Kent North, says the assembly is the people’s house and it should reflect all people and not just one religion.
“To explore more inclusive ways… and my personal thinking here is maybe a minute of silence but there might be other options that could be discussed,” Arseneau notes.
Arseneau feels it’s still important to have a time for prayer but just not the Lord’s Prayer.
“We are governed by the rule of law and so there is a clear separation of religion and state… or at least supposed to be. Some other provinces have already removed the prayer.”
Arseneau plans to bring the motion forward to the procedures committee when they meet in May.
