Opposition MLA’s will be asking the Higgs government to consider binding arbitration in the nursing home workers dispute.
A motion is expected to be introduced in the legislature on Thursday even though the government has already rejected the idea.
The New Brunswick Council of Nursing Home Unions claims the employer did not want to reach a fair collective agreement at the table.
Union president Sharon Teare believes the situation would have been resolved by now if workers had the right to strike.
CUPE spokesperson Patrick Roy says they have bargained to the point where both parties’ remaining issues should be sent to binding arbitration.
The union claims the employer – the New Brunswick Association of Nursing Homes – has not yet laid out any wage package other than the original proposal which has already been rejected by workers.
The province was recently granted a court order which prevents workers from walking off the job.
