The Conservatives are hoping to make a major breakthrough in Atlantic Canada in this fall’s federal election.
All 32 seats in the region are currently held by the Liberals.
Atlantic Canada’s Conservative shadow minister Rob Moore says Energy East may be dead but a west to east pipeline is something the party will continue pushing during the campaign.
“The idea of bringing our resources from Western Canada to be refined and value-added here where the jobs are in Atlantic Canada and then exported to the world,” he notes.
Moore says the party also plans to focus on seniors and the region’s aging population which will mean an increased demand on the health care system and other services.
He adds the Tory immigration strategy will centre around bringing in newcomers with the right skills to fill gaps in the labour market.
