The Town of Riverview has taken an important step toward the construction of a new community wellness centre.
Longtime resident and volunteer Lawrence Forbes has been named chair of the steering committee.
Forbes is a past president of the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Moncton Centreville Inc. and has chaired previous fundraising campaigns.
“The community wellness centre is an exciting project for Riverview,” said Forbes. “The town has great reputation for its recreation programming and facilities, and a new wellness centre will enable Riverview to build on that reputation for many year to come.”
Town Council has budgeted $250,000 this year to support community-led fundraising, the centre’s design and project management.
The $16 million wellness centre will include a pool, walking track, community space and a field house with construction set to begin in 2022.
