inThe Moncton Wildcats will have a new Head Coach behind the bench when the hit the ice tonight.
John Torchetti was welcomed back to the team this week.
Torchetti, 54, began his NHL coaching career in 1999 with the Tampa Bay Lightning as assistant coach, and has since spent 12 seasons in the National Hockey League, serving as both assistant and head coach. During the 2009-2010 season he helped to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to their fourth Stanley Cup Championship alongside head coach Joel Quenneville.
Team President Robert K. Irving says they are ecstatic to have him back, “John is very passionate about hockey. He is very passionate about coaching and teaching. He is a person that I think the players will respect because he will bring structure and discipline to the team. When John gets behind the bench, I know he is committed and I am committed to winning. The idea is to get back on a winning note here, to get some wins in the building and on the road. We plan to stay competitive this season and to building for the future.”

Torchetti will also be the team’s Director of Hockey Operations.
He replaces Darren Rumble, who was released from the Head Coach role last week.
“We have a team that we felt should be achieving more than we have been recently and the decision was made to make a change,” Irving says.
“I’m excited by the opportunity with the Moncton Wildcats,” said John Torchetti. “I’m looking forward to returning to Moncton and helping the team achieve its vision. I want to build a team that gives us the best chance to win the Memorial Cup, while also embracing the Wildcats values. Ultimately, we are entrusted to help shape the character of these young men.”
