The price of cannabis has gone up across the country since recreational use was legalized last fall.
By using price quotes from mid-October to the end of December, Statistics Canada determined the average price for cannabis from legal suppliers was $9.70 per gram.
The price in the black market was much lower at $6.51 per gram.
Through crowdsourcing, Statscan says roughly half of individuals bought cannabis legally and purchased more online compared to retail stores.
However, the amount purchased from illegal suppliers was more than double the amount bought through legal methods.
Statscan also found men were more likely to buy cannabis from legal suppliers than women.
Men also tend to buy larger quantities both legally and in the black market.
Both sexes purchased more cannabis illegally compared to retail stores or online.
