Has your family been considering a new furry addition to the family?
The Greater Moncton SPCA says Christmas may be the perfect time, if you’ve done some planning first.
Executive Director Dave Rogers says before you take the leap to bring an animal home, it must be a decision made by the family, “If you wanted to have a cat or dog or another pet in your family, then you need to talk with your wife and your husband and your children. Make sure everyone has their opinions known, so you know that this is something that the family wants.”
Rogers says you’ll need to fill out an application first, “Because that takes a few days to process. Once that is done, then you are able to come in and have a look at the animals.”
If you go into the shelter, and you don’t find an animal that is the right fit, don’t feel pressured to adopt.
“Talk to your daughter or son, and you have agreed that you are going to get a kitten or a puppy, and you just can’t find the right one. Why not go out and get a litter box, or a collar, and some food, and put it under the tree? Maybe between Christmas and New Years you’ll find the right cat or dog,” Rogers says.
