A familiar face is returning to Moncton City Hall.
A former three-time city councillor and opponent of Dawn Arnold in 2016 for mayor, Brian Hicks once again won a seat representing Ward 3 in Monday’s byelection.
Hicks captured 1,034 votes beating his four fellow candidates.
Elections NB says more than 15,000 residents of Ward 3 were eligible to vote but turnout was only 14 percent.
Hicks also ran provincially for the Liberals in 2014 in Moncton Northwest and lost to Ernie Steeves.
Hicks says a lot of residents told him they missed his voice on council and his good financial questions.
Now that’s he’s back on council, Hicks says he would like to see more transparency at city hall.
“There is certainly a feeling that a lot of decisions are made behind closed doors and taxpayers are not getting all the facts.”
As he campaigned door to door, Hicks says he was hearing a lot of questions about rising property taxes and concerns about the level of council spending in the last six months.
The Ward 3 seat became vacant after former councillor Rob McKee was elected as a Liberal MLA for Moncton Centre in September’s provincial election.
