A man and a woman have been taken to hospital for treatment after a house fire Thursday afternoon on Carlyle Street in Moncton’s east end.
Fire platoon chief Brian Gaudet says crews arrived around 1pm to find a lot of fire from the first floor of the two-storey home.
“We advanced the hose line to the front door and extinguished most of that fire. We made our way to the second floor as well and pulled some ceilings and knocked down a lot of that fire.”
Gaudet says it took about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control and there’s no word yet on a cause.
He believes the man and woman both suffered smoke inhalation and the man suffered burns.
He adds one dog died in the fire but a cat was rescued and is being cared for by a neighbour.
