A study released by the Universite de Moncton shows more seniors are now living in poverty in New Brunswick compared to ten years ago.
The study shows the proportion of low-income seniors in New Brunswick has risen to 20 percent as of 2015 and almost a quarter of that total are women.
No matter where they live in the province, it found anglophone seniors generally have higher incomes than francophones.
Experts have suggested a number of solutions including more social housing for seniors, reducing the gap between rich and poor and a better public home care system.
About 20 percent of New Brunswick’s total population is 65 and over which ties Nova Scotia as having the oldest population in the country.
