A Healthy Seniors Pilot Project in New Brunswick will look at better support for seniors in their homes, communities and care facilities.
In this week’s federal budget, $75 million was set aside for that project.
Coalition for Seniors executive director Cecile Cassista says changes need to be made but another study isn’t necessary.
“When you look at Manitoba, over 40 years, and Saskatchewan. I think they have to look at those models and introduce them into New Brunswick as quickly as possible. They’ve done enough studies and I think they need to get to the action plan.”
Cassista was happy to hear the province has been chosen, but she is cautiously optimistic since next year is a federal election year.
The budget stated New Brunswick was chosen because its population is aging faster than the rest of Canada.
