Plans for the new middle school in North End Moncton are moving forward.
At last night’s Anglophone East District Education Council meeting, the specifications for the school were approved.
Councillor Angela Lawson explains the next steps.
“The full document will go to the Minister of Education for final signoff, now that the District Education Council has signed off,” says Lawson. “Typically, we would expect a very close announcement of the location of land.”
Lawson says they need 18 acres of land for the school, plus 1 acre for each 100 students.
“So it’s quite a large parcel of land, but in the North End within the catchment area of Northrop Frye and Evergreen there is enough land,” says Lawson. “We do know that our district staff have been very involved in the location, so it was narrowed down, and our staff are happy with the potential locations.”
The school is designed to accommodate 700 students once it opens in 2019.
