One of Saint John’s biggest and brightest personalities, as well as one of our most well-known artistic talents, has passed away.
Saint John artist Fred Ross has died at the age of 87 after living for a number of years at the Turnbull Home.
Ross, who was born in Saint John in 1927, stands among the Port City’s most iconic painters including Jack Humphrey and Miller Brittain. He was active the the community and painted until just a few month before his death, according to his friend of many decades, antiques dealer Tim Isaac. Isaac tells CHSJ News apart from his family, Ross’ greatest joy was in the friends by whom he was always surrounded.
Since 1949, his work has been exhibited in more than 80 exhibitions and is represented in the National Gallery of Canada. Ross also received the Order of New Brunswick in recognition of his artistic acheivements.
