It’s a historic agreement and a first in the Maritimes for the Montoni Group.
Expansion Dieppe has signed a two million square foot development deal for growth in the Dieppe Industrial Park.
“It’s a firm that does large industrial projects, and they will offer up our land for their clientele that they deal with in central Canada. It’s not going to change anything for our local promoters and developers, as it’s not an exclusive deal. If anybody comes knocking on our door, locally we will be entertaining the same type of deals as that we have been in the past,” says Expansion Dieppe Executive Director Louis Godbout.
He says Montoni is estimating that their real estate investment in this territory could be as much as $125 million over the coming years and could create in the range of 500 local jobs, not including employees who get work during the construction periods.
“All of the construction is going to be done by local suppliers. They’re not bringing anybody from the outside to do that. They’re very anchored into sustainability, ecological products, and efficient product building, and they’re very in tune that the community has to be part of these investment projects that they make in the community.”
He adds that talks are already underway with clientele that want to expand into Atlantic Canada, and Dieppe is on the Atlantic corridor for commerce, logistics and distribution.
“For them, it’s a logical choice to offer their clients to settle a first footprint in Atlantic Canada,” Godbout says.
The Dieppe Industrial Park area is located between Highway 15 and Highway 2 and part of Champlain, Route 132. Phase one of the expansion of Aviation Avenue is past the new airport terminal, where all the car dealerships are. Phase two has just contoured the 10,001-foot-long runway for the cargo planes, just beside Highway 2 going east and on the other side of the runways.
“With our business focus and environmentally friendly economy, Dieppe stands out as an ideal place to do business, raise a family and work. We are delighted with this new partnership, which will enable us to pursue our development according to the principles of smart growth, thereby reducing our environmental impact and improving the quality of life of our residents,” says Mayor Yvon Lapierre.
