You may have noticed something missing from along the Riverfront Trail in Riverview.
The Higgs Brook Covered Bridge which has been there for around 30 years has been removed.
Spokesperson Ashly Barron says not to worry, it’s being replaced.
“There is regular wear and tear that happens on a wooden structure like that. So up until this point, we’ve been maintaining it and repairing the bridge, but it came to a point where it was time to look at other options, to enhance that part of the trail which would be easier to maintain into the future,” Barron says.
The new structure is being constructed off-site, but Barron is hoping it will begin to take shape on the riverfront over the next few weeks.
“The new structure will be quite a bit bigger than the bridge that was there before. It has a look off that faces the river, where people who are on the walking trail can come out onto a platform and watch the tidal bore,” Barron adds.
