Don’t throw your pumpkins away after Halloween, take them to TransAqua where they will be sent for composting instead.
It is hosting its first-ever Pumpkin Parade.
“It’s an idea that our Communications and Marketing Manager brought with her from her time in Ontario. We are looking forward to rolling it out to our community. I was actually speaking with a local farmer and he said that he thought it was very interesting, and nothing like that has ever been seen around here,” General Manager Kevin Rice says.
The public can drop off their pumpkins at TransAqua on Hillsborough Road before noon on Saturday, at the Eco 360 head office on Coverdale Road or the community garden on Runnymede Road in Riverview.
“We want to line them all up on a little trail that shows all the great carved pumpkins from the community, and we will light them up and people can walk through and admire all the creativity.”
On Sunday, Eco 360 will take the pumpkins back to their facility for composting and they will add some nice nutrients back to the earth for next year’s farming season.
“I think we’ve had over 500 responses from people indicating they would like to come. Really, for TransAqua, it’s about community engagement,” Rice adds.
It’s the first time TransAqua has ever held a Pumpkin Parade, but Rice expects it won’t be the last.
“We would like to do this on an annual basis. It’s all about promoting what we do, connecting with the community and this type of event will go a long way to doing that.”
