The incoming Liberal MLA for Moncton Northwest is Tania Sodhi.
She received the most votes on Monday night, beating out Progressive Conservative Ernie Steeves.
Sodhi moved here from India six years ago. She says she used to complain a lot to her husband about provincial issues.
“We came to this country, for a better life. When I see healthcare and when I see the education system, it’s doing really bad. So my husband said, ‘Why don’t you step in? Why don’t you do something?’ Then I decided, to step in and work with Susan Holt, because I like the liberal policies, and they’re good. They are helpful. They actually think about people. They actually think about citizens, and what is going on in the province.”
She spent more than 32 days campaigning, knocking on doors and listening to the residents.
“This issue of homelessness, which is increasing in my riding, I’ll be working on that. And then there is a smell issue in my riding because of the dumpyard, so I’ll be working on that as well. I’m going to talk to the residents more, and when I take the role, I’ll sit and talk and look into it.”
Sodhi was very optimistic about Holt making history, by being the first female Premier in New Brunswick.
“She’s going to do an amazing job. I have trust in her. She’s amazing as a person, and she’s going to be amazing as a leader,” Sodhi said.
