A PC MLA who served Moncton Northwest for the past ten years, came up short last night.
“I learned long ago from Bruce Fitch and others, that this is a temporary job and everybody has an expiry date. I guess this government is at that point,” Ernie Steeves told our newsroom.
He thanked the Moncton Northwest constituents who elected him in the past.
Steeves adds that he values the time he spent as an MLA and as a Finance Minister.
“It’s a rare opportunity. There are very, very, very few people that get to be MLAs, and even fewer that get to be Finance Ministers and then President of the Treasury Board and all the rest that goes with that. And you know what? There’s even fewer than that to get to do it for six years.”
When asked why he thought the votes went this way, Steeves stated that some healing needs to happen within the PC party, “Obviously, with some of the situations last year. They’ll move on and prepare for four years down the road, and in the meantime, those who were re-elected will be here to keep the Liberals in line.”
Steeves was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in 2014, representing the Progressive Conservatives.
