Players, young and old on 56 teams will hit the courts in Riverfront Park on Saturday, September 14.
They’ll battle in the third annual Norval McConnell 3 on 3 basketball tournament.
The tournament kicked off in 2022 as a way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Moncton Basketball Association.
Board member and chair Chris Choiniere says it has grown a lot since then, “Our first year, we had 30 teams. Last year we went up to 36 and this year it’s up to 56. I think we’ve grown to become the biggest three-on-three basketball tournament in Atlantic, Canada right now. So that’s pretty exciting.”
They’re hoping with continued growth, they may be able to move from Riverfront Park to Main Street for the tournament.
“We get event booths and vendors, so it creates this really fun environment during the whole day. We’re encouraging everybody to come down to this event. Even if you don’t know somebody playing, or if you’re not playing, we really think this is a fun community event. There’s basketball all day, and there’s going to be other events throughout the day, music, a barbecue and refreshments and snacks,” Choiniere adds.
The schedule is as follows:
- 9 AM – 2 PM – Youth 3 on 3 Tournament with multiple divisions: U11 Boys, U11 Girls, U13 Boys, U13 Girls, U15 Boys, U15 Girls, U18 Boys, and U18 Girls.
