You may have noticed a few trail closures if you’ve recently visited Mapleton Park in Moncton’s north end.
City Parks Director Dan Hicks says they’re upgrading the Lagune Trail from the Wetland to Floodplain trails.
“We’re getting the trails up out of the water, out of the flood-prone areas. We are improving our drainage including culverts and getting grass slopes on the sides. It’s a more comfortable walk and it’s being brought to a higher standard.”
The work continues until September 30th.
“We have to reconstruct some of the trails to allow for better drainage, better alignment and make them so they are a bit wider and able to be maintained with our maintenance equipment,” Hicks adds.
Barriers have gone up on some of the trails and equipment is also on site.
“We aim to keep as much of the trail open as possible. There may be times when one section of the trail is closed and another time that trail is open and another section is closed. We do ask the public to respect the signage and barriers on site,” Hicks adds.
