A major American plus-size women’s clothing chain is opening a second New Brunswick location.
Torrid is currently hiring for several positions at McAllister Place on the east side of Saint John.
A spokesperson for the company confirmed in an email that they plan to open in early January.
“This new location allows our customers to have a second option in the New Brunswick area,” said the spokesperson.
According to company officials, they plan to hire between 12 and 16 employees for the new location.
The clothing retailer opened its first New Brunswick location at CF Champlain in Dieppe in 2022.
Torrid specializes in direct-to-consumer clothing, focusing on the size-10-30 range for nearly four million active customers.
It was formerly owned by Hot Topic, and now is a subsidiary of New York-based private equity firm Sycamore Partners. The chain operates more than 600 stores in total, with more than 25 of those based in Canada.
Sycamore Partners also owns numerous brands that include Hot Topic, Talbots, EMP Merchandising and Staples – and has ownership stakes in a wide swath of brands that include Aeropostale.
