June was already a very wet month for most of New Brunswick and now a trough of low pressure will bring even more rain to southern parts of the province.
Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings for several regions where 50 to 70 millimetres of rain could fall or more from Sunday evening extending into Monday night.
The following areas are under a rainfall warning as of 4 p.m. Sunday:
- Fundy National Park
- Grand Manan and coastal Charlotte County
- Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick
- Saint John and County
- St. Stephen and northern Charlotte County
- Sussex – Kennebecasis Valley and Kings County
Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia are also included in the rainfall warning.
Adjacent areas such as Fredericton, Oromocto, Grand Lake, Kent County and Kouchibouguac National Park are under special weather statements where 30 to 45 millimetres of rain could fall.
The weather office warns that heavy downpours may cause water pooling on roads and flash flooding.
Data from Environment Canada shows June was a wet month with 147 millimetres of rain in Moncton, or 50 percent wetter than average, and 226 millimetres in Saint John, which is more than double the monthly normal.
