The Princess Royal is visiting New Brunswick during this holiday weekend to mark the 175th anniversary of the 8th Canadian Hussars, the country’s oldest armoured regiment.
Since 1972, Princess Anne has been the Colonel in Chief of the 8th Hussars and this trip will include stops in Fredericton, Moncton and Sussex.
Her Royal Highness will arrive at the Fredericton Airport on Friday morning before taking a military helicopter to Moncton where she will lay a wreath at the RCMP Memorial at 11 a.m.
After a midday reception at Moncton City Hall, Princess Anne will take part in an 8th Hussars memorial service at St. George’s Anglican Church at 3 p.m.
After a stop at the Sistema School of Music on Mill Road, the princess will attend a 7 p.m. concert at the Wesleyan Celebration Centre featuring the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra.
On Saturday, a 21-gun salute along the riverfront will mark a military procession through downtown Moncton at 11 a.m. followed by an afternoon open house at Moncton Garrison and a private gala in the evening at the Delta Beausejour Hotel.
The royal tour moves to Sussex on Sunday with a service at Trinity Anglican Church at 10 a.m. which will be followed by a military parade on Broad Street.
Later, Princess Anne will take a tour of the 8th Canadian Hussars Museum and attend their open house on Leonard Drive from 1 to 3 p.m.
The visit will conclude as the Princess Royal leaves Sussex by helicopter and lands at the Greater Moncton Airport where she will board a commercial flight home to London via a stop in Montreal.
