The Beauséjour Family Crisis Resource Centre’s annual major fundraiser Shoppers Drug Mart Run for Women is coming up this Sunday, May 7 at Centennial Park.
CEO Kristal LeBlanc says the 5K or 10K run, walk or roll event raises awareness about women’s mental health issues such as trauma from domestic violence.
“We are really paying tribute to victims that we have lost to acts of domestic homicide. When people register, they can choose one of our silent witnesses that they would like to walk in honor of.”
Despite the name of the event, LeBlanc says men and boys are encouraged to come out and support women as well.
“We get asked about that a lot. It’s called Shoppers Drug Mart Run for Women. Men can certainly participate. Men as allies are a very important part of the equation of addressing gender-based violence.”
The goal is to raise $100,000 for the Courage Centre’s trauma-specialized daycare.
The registration deadline for the Run for Women is Tuesday, May 2 at midnight.
