If you’re planning to burn any grass or brush this spring in New Brunswick, make sure conditions are safe to do so in your area first.
Residents should call the provincial burn line toll-free at 1-866-458-8080 or visit forest fire watch where burning conditions by county are updated daily at 2 p.m.

Wildfire prevention officer Roger Collet says precipitation or a lack of it is among the factors to consider.
“Winds have a lot of effect on the conditions daily in the springtime too. So if the winds are low that helps keep the fires at bay.”
Collet says early spring can be a dangerous time for fires especially until the greening-up of the landscape occurs by mid-May across the south and a bit later up north.
“Always be vigilant. Even if burning is allowed, fires can still get away on you. Stay with your fire and make sure you have some equipment with you to extinguish it if the fire starts to get out of control.”
So far this season, more than 30 fires have been recorded provincewide burning about 143 hectares which is higher than last year and the ten-year average.
